Steve Pennycook and his unique water cooled
Matchless!
Yes, he really is pouring water over his magneto.
The temperature was very hot and while the magneto would keep the bike running it had to be cooled down at each stop.

Together with Dennis & Jan Jackson we were travelling (in our vans) up the Mosel Valley when we pulled in for a photo of Cochem Castle when we heard the distinctive sound of classic four strokes. To our surprise it was three of our fellow Scottish section members, Dave Raeburn, Steve Pennycook and Ivor Ward. They were going down the valley on the same day as we were travelling up the valley. Although they did not see us they stopped for a map reading 100 yards down the road so enabling us to meet up. So we had a chance meeting on the Thursday before the rally.

Dennis,
Jan And myself basking in the German sunshine. On the Saturday of the rally we travelled about 20 miles to the NSU Museum of Two Wheeled Travel in Neckarsulm. You can see in this shot the car park in front of the Museum was crowded with AMC machinery. There was great atmosphere as we made ready for our lunch.
The visit included lunch and entrance to the Museum all complete with some really splendid weather. |

The museum had fixed display for you to get a hands or feet on experience. I try out the Penny Farthing Bicycle as can be seen in the other pictures this display was very popular and most visitors could not resist the chance for a risk free trip.

My personal favourite, I just said to me "Take me Home". However if I work really, really hard mine might just approach this, maybe.

On Sunday we were taken on the Big Neckar
river valley tour. The drop off system was used on this run and thanks to the Dutch Section it functioned perfectly and we were all able to drive with confidence. Just before our lunch stop we were taken on a short river trip. The ferry took about forty bikes and we must have monopolised about five crossings before we all got across.

The weather was overcast most of the journey with just a few spots of rain. During lunch however, the heavens opened and it poured catching the last group of riders. After lunch the rain stopped enabling us to return to the campsite without get soaked or in a few cases any wetter. |

On the Monday it was raining so
some of us went to the Technical Museum at Sinsheim.
A beautiful Morgan with Matchless engine caught my eye. Many of the exhibits were of older German Marques which you would be very rare in in the UK. There was also a large military display as well as a Concord and a Concordski.. |
